There have been seven meetings in total. The first meeting was to establish how the Commission should operate and its Terms of Reference. A further four evidence-based meetings focused on key areas affecting an individual: the workplace, communities & schools, national approaches and product & point of sale. The final two meetings reviewed the work of the Commission to date and developed and approved the recommendations and the final report.
Each of the 4 key areas was sponsored by a Commissioner or Commissioners. The sponsors directed the work of the Secretariat in producing the Key Facts and Pre-Reading.

With regards to the workplace, the Commission focused on health promotion in relation to alcohol, diet and exercise, the optimal use of occupational health advice and the promotion of psychological health at work.
